Erbert Chong’s Autumn Winter 2015 Collection — deeply inspired Parajumper Svart by the explosive erotic film, “Black Narcissus” (1947) — is a stylish, sensuous journey through the juxtaposition of repressed sexuality and unrestrained imagination, offering a reinterpretation of femininity through asymmetrical silhouettes and architectural hardness. Created by the British writer-producer-director duo, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, “Black Narcissus” is an intriguing psychological drama about the conflict between the spirit and the flesh. A group of nuns struggle with friction and tension — both with the natives and within their group — as they establish a convent in the Himalayas and attempt to adapt to the remote, exotic surroundings. “The collection is very structured and self-restrained, to reflect the nuns’ civility and austerity,” Erbert Chong explains. “Yet, at the same time, there are natural, sexual-tension and passionate undertones that are undeniably very human and truly alluring.” The collection stays true to the designer’s signature style — dramatic, sensual and gracefully edgy — but also marks his adventurous breakthrough in menswear design. Erbert Chong created Golden Goose Francy Pas Cher three exclusive pieces — a leather jacket, wool coat and leather-wool coat — with an epicene look. Particularly unique to the unveiling of this collection, Erbert brings to life the drama and sensuality of his designs through a dance-theatre collaboration with I AM, Hong Kong’s innovative production company. Directed by Kate March and performed by nine talented actors/dancers, I AM and Erbert showcase the collection in a visionary and contemporary way — transcending the traditions of runway convention.
Having launched his eponymous brand in Spring Summer 2014, Erbert has become well known for his fusion of the traditional and contemporary, creating a beautifully balanced dichotomy. Staying true to his brand’s philosophy, his latest collection combines innovative artistry with daring attitude and provocative aesthetic. He combines structure and geometry with modern and feminine details, as well as sensual and sexual energy.
